Homemade Peach Crisp:

2 cups sliced fresh or canned peaches

1/4 c. butter or margarine, soft

1 3/4 c. sugar, divided

1 c. all-purpose flour

1 tsp salt

1/2 c. milk

1 tbsp cornstarch

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1 c. boiling water

whipped cream or ice cream to top

 

Place peach slices in an 8 -in. square baking pan (greased.) Cream butter and 3/4 c. sugar. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt, add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Spoon over fruit. Sift together 1 c. sugar, cornstarch, and nutmeg; sprinkle over batter. Pour boiling water over top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream on top, if desired.
